Day 1: Lima
Lima is a highly underrated South American capital. Take a tour of the beautiful city, where you can see colonial architecture, ancient ruins, and modern high-rises all next to each other. The historic center of Lima is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby you can wander the trendy streets before seeing Huaca Pucllana ruins, or stroll along the coastal cliffs in Miraflores and enjoy beautiful parks such as the Park of Love.
Day 2: Paracas & Nazca Lines
Nazca continues to stun researchers and visitors alike. Construction of the lines began around 500 BC and continued up to 500 AD. Take a flight over the lines to see the famous geoglyphs such as the condor, monkey and hummingbird.
Day 3: Ballestas Islands
The nearby Ballesta Islands have another geoglyph, the Candelabra, a 50 meter long sketch in the hills. Ballesta Islands is a protected nature area for animals like sea lions, penguins, birds, and turtles. You can admire all the wildlife and interesting rock formations from a boat.
Day 4: Arequipa
Fly to Arequipa, known as the white city for its beautiful colonial architecture. Day 5: Colca Canyon
Colca Canyon is one the deepest canyons in the world, and home to the mystical condor. This huge bird glides effortlessly over picturesque villages, pre-Inca ruins, and the glaciers of Ampato and Hualca. Visit volcanoes or relax in the natural hot springs.
Day 6: Colca Canyon and Puno
The drive to Puno offers amazing views of the Andes. However, Puno is at a high altitude, so be sure to acclimate upon arrival and check out the many fine restaurants in the area.
Day 7: Lake Titicaca
Take a full-day tour of this dazzling blue lake. The highest navigable lake in the world, there are many floating islands made of reeds. Many of the islanders work in Puno, live in relative isolation, or use tourism as a source of income and allow tourists to visit during the day or spend the night. Purchase beautiful handicrafts and learn about ancient traditions of local islanders.
Day 8: Cusco
Take the train, bus, or a plane to Cusco where you can enjoy the lively nightlife or explore the colorful shops.
Day 9: Cusco
Take a tour of Cusco to see the amazing archaeological sites and wonders in and around the city, as well as the main square, Plaza de Armas.
Day 10: Sacred Valley of the Incas
Embark on a journey into the famous Sacred Valley of the Incas. Families have lived in the Andean mountain tops for more than 500 years, and you can still see the echoes of traditional lifestyle. The drive from Cusco is short, and worthwhile. Check out the town of Pisac, famous for its markets and the impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo.
Day 11: Machu Picchu
The highlight of most travelers' Peru vacation package is the hidden temple in the Andes, Machu Picchu. The train ride to the site is as much of an attraction as the ruin itself. The nearby town of Aguas Calientes has hot springs you can enjoy if you decide to stay here for the night.
Day 12: Puerto Maldonado
Take a flight from Cusco into the jungle at Puerto Maldonado. You can sail in a dugout canoe down the Tambopata River, or relax in the tranquility of the rainforest.
Day 13-14: Amazon Rainforest
The massive Amazon rainforest needs at least two days. The Amazon rainforest contains more than half of the world's rainforest. You can hike through the jungle trying to spot river otters, turtles, birds, and other wildlife.
Day 15: Lima
You will most likely have to fly to Lima to fly home or onward to your next destination. Or consider seeing more of this dynamic country, and stay for a while.
